Romanian PM Victor Ponta resigns

5 November 2015

Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta resigned Wednesday after tens of thousands took to the streets following the death of 32 young people in a Bucharest night club over the weekend. The protests have led to calls for political reform and a heavier hand in shutting down political corruption.
The mayor of district 4 where the tragedy occurred has also resigned, following revelations that the club had no operating permit.
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis will now have to nominate a new candidate for the post of prime minister.
