The Federal Transit Administration has given its approval for the third phase of SunRail to the Orlando International Airport. It means that a cost analysis can begin on the $1.3 billion project, which is run by the state and the region’s transportation planning agency MetroPlan Orlando. In addition, environmental studies can now be carried out thanks to the approval, along with early engineering, operations planning and other preliminary work.
“The approval of the SunRail connector to the Orlando International Airport by FTA is a significant step for developing a truly regional system,” said U.S. Rep. John Mica, R-Florida. “This will allow us to dramatically increase service and access to the new intermodal center at the airport which is now under construction. Bringing SunRail into OIA remains my top priority for the future of our Central Florida fixed transportation system.”
