Budapest vying to host 2024 Olympics

17 September 2015

Budapest is competing against Hamburg, Paris, Rome and Los Angeles to host the 2024 Olympic Games. Hungary is the only country among the 10 most successful Olympic nations that has not yet hosted the games. The host city will be announced in 2017. The Hungarian government has set aside HUF 36bn from the 2016 budget for the construction of a National Olympic Center. The International Olympic Committee will contribute $1.7bn in cash and services to the organizing committee of whichever city is chosen to host.
