Blanka tunnel to open on Sept. 20

4 September 2015

Blanka tunnel, a key part of the Prague ring road, will open on Sept. 20. The city council decided against holding any kind of elaborate ceremonial event for the much-delayed tunnel opening. The deputy mayor for transport, Petr Dolínek, said that any kind of big opening celebration would be a mockery. Instead, there will be a simple ribbon-cutting before the tunnel opens to cars. Safety tests are currently underway in the tunnel, and Dolínek still has to meet with representatives of the local municipalities to make sure their suggestions concerning the tunnel were dealt with. The 6 km tunnel was originally scheduled to open in 2011. The price ballooned over the years to CZK 37m.
