“Destatis”, Germany’s statistics office, reported in 2014 that Germany is now inhabited by 16.4 million people who have a migrant background, which accounts for roughly 20.3 percent of the total population. Most of those of foreign descent in Germany who arrived after 2011 came from EU Member States. The statistics indicates a 52 percent increase in the number of Hungarians living in Germany since 2011. According to the figures, as of the end of 2014, 156,812 Hungarians lived in Germany. By contrast, the number of Greeks and Spaniards officially residing in Germany during this period increased just 6.1 and 12.7 percent, respectively.
