The Czech state is finding it difficult to spend money quickly enough to match the amount on offer from the European Union for the construction of new motorways. The state’s highway authority is hoping to fix this by focusing on bypasses around cities. Such projects move more quickly, according to Czech Highway Authority director Jan Kroupa, because the preparation of documentation and permits is far more simple.
“A great deal depends on the representatives of the city in question,” he told iDnes.cz. “If they help us with the purchase of land and take care of the negotiations with land owners, everything can go more quickly. Construction is expected to begin on 10 bypasses this year, with preparations underway on another 12.
