The Italian contractor Serenissima Costruzioni has failed to make its mark on the Czech Repubic’s road building sector. According to the Czech Highway Authority, it failed to win any tenders thanks to bids that were too high, or which did not meet the tender conditions. The CZK 1bn order was won by Strabag and Eurovia. Most recently, its bid for the modernization of a section of the D1 motorway was thrown out because the company never made the deposit required of all tender candidates. According to idnes.cz, Serenissima Costruzioni blamed this on its Romanian partner (an insurance company) which failed to secure funding for the bid.
