Wal-Mart planning new Florida distribution center

8 July 2015

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is putting a new plan before Polk County commissioners to build a distribution center that would generate $200 million and could eventually create more than 600 jobs. Located at the intersection of Highway 27 and Waverly Barn Road in Davenport, the center would have two buildings offering between 900,000 and 1 million square feet each. The center would create at least 300 and up to 625 new jobs.

Wal-Mart is requesting a 10-year tax abatement exemption that would allow the company to save $1.2 million in property taxes this fiscal year and $2.3 million in 2016. Construction would begin in the third quarter of 2015. The center would begin operating in the third or fourth quarter of 2016.
