Czech data centers to create 5,000 new jobs in five years

9 April 2015

Several large data centers are scheduled to open in the Czech Republic, with 5,000 new jobs expected to hit the market over the next five years, writes the daily Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD). While the sector was once dominated by large telecom companies like Czech T-Mobile, České radiokomunikace and O2, an increasing number of other companies have since enter the field. Seznam.cz, for example, is currently moving its servers to a new center in Horní Počernice outside Prague. The company has invested CZK 150m into its construction. The center, secured by a special scanner that identifies people’s bloodstream, will open in June. VS Hosting plans to complete its Server Park in Prague Hostivař in mid-2015 and DataSpring Company, a member of the KKCG investment group, plans to open a large data center in Lužice u Hodonína in South Moravia. The DataSpring center cost CZK 250m, part of which was covered by European subsidies. It will serve not just the companies within the group but also clients from Western Europe. The number of jobs connected with the sector is expected to run to 21,000 by 2020, according to MfD.
