FCI Residential Corp. has begun demolition on the Amazon Hose & Rubber Co. building, one of the last major warehouse buildings left in the downtown Channel District area of Tampa. The property covers about two-thirds of a city block and is bordered by East Kennedy Boulevard, North 12th Street and North 11th Street. The demolition work is a precursor for the development of Channelside Residence, a new 300-unit, upscale apartment complex. The project is slated for completion in late 2016.
“Everything is moving along as planned, and we’re targeting construction to start this summer,” said Juan Porro, vice president of FCI Residential Corp., a development subsidiary of argo-business giant Florida Crystals Inc. “You’ll be able to park in the garage and walk right into your apartment. … And it will have an art deco-flair, with a two-story amenity center; a very resort-style property like Miami Beach.”
