In an effort to break ground on a fourth metro line by 2017, the City of Prague plans to start land acquisitions this year. Metro line D would connect the city center with Krč, Libuš and Písnice in Prague 4. The city has earmarked CZK 625m for the project from its 2015 budget. However idnes.cz writes that the first phase of the new line will cost CZK 30bn. The city is hoping to pull money from the national budget as well as the EU for the investment.
The fourth metro line has been in planning for 10 years. Fed up with the delays, Prague residents have started signing petitions to try and force the city to start construction. Line D will go up in two phases, with completion scheduled for 2022.
