The new head of CzechInvest says that the agency needs to look for new sources of foreign direct investment. In an interview with the daily Hospodářské noviny, Karel Kučera insists that this should be combined with utilizing Czech suppliers and R&D capacity as much as possible. “We’ll concentrate more on investors from abroad,” he said. “If we’re going to get results, we have to increase the number of projects. There’s plenty of investment potential. Companies have been saving and now they need to invest so that the competition doesn’t pull ahead of them. We need to find out that they want to make these investments and attract them to the Czech Republic.”
He said that so long as the Czech Republic was seen simply as a developing economy, it was attractive to foreign investors. Now, as a developed economy, the country will have to work harder to bring in new investments.
