$430m in new nursing homes after ban lifted

24 February 2015

Following the lifting of a 14-year ban on nursing home construction, Central Florida will get $115.7 million in new nursing homes and expansions with a total of 717 new beds. State-wide, Florida will get 22 new nursing homes and another 11 will expand for a total value of $430 million according to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. The largest project will be a 180-bed facility in Orange County while the most expensive is a $29.7 million home in Osceola County. The new projects are expected to help alleviate what’s seen as a critical shortage of nursing home services across Florida. However, appeals likely will be filed by developers of projects that were previously denied, which could delay construction of the approved projects by up to a year.
