Skanska has one of the biggest road tenders sewn up already, at least according to information from the idnes.cz website. It claims that the Swedish construction giant, whose ex-boss is now minister of transportation, made the lowest bid. The company is offering to build a 14 kilometer section of the D1 motorway between Přerov and Lipník nad Bečva for CZK 2.7bn, a lower figure than any of the other 12 offers that have been confirmed by the Czech Highway Authority. What’s remarkable about the bid is that it’s 45 percent lower than the original estimates by the investor, who had assumed a price tag of CZK 4.97bn. The highest offer in the tender was for CZK 3.5bn. Road tenders are often won by bids that undercut the estimated price, but a change has taken place in rail tenders, where bids are not coming in at higher-than-anticipated prices.
