Outrage over Brno’s updated master plan

6 February 2015

In January, the regional court in Brno shocked many by cancelling an update to the city’s master plan. The decision leaves plans made by some developers in the city in tatters, writes the Brno daily. It features the director of the company Trikaya, Alexej Veselý, which has been working on plans for an apartment building for three years. “It cost us around CZK 15m and we’ll probably lose it all,” he says. “We can just throw out all our plans, or put them in the drawer for the time being.” He warns that the court’s decision could have a negative impact on the city’s economy. “Constructing just one building employs a lot of people,” he told the daily. “Those are jobs that won’t be there now.”

Mimoto is another developer that had been working on a multifunctional building on Provazníkově Street in Brno whose project is now endangered. “Right now we’re still getting over what’s happened and working out how to proceed,” says its director Pavel Bezpalec. “Investors will think twice now whether they want to build something here. No one knows what the new master plan will look like,” he said.
