Delayed Karlovy Vary station reconstruction poised to start

4 February 2015

The envelopes in a tender for the reconstruction of the Karlovy Vary train station worth tens of millions of crowns should be opened next week. Construction should get underway quickly after that, as completion of the long-awaited project is due by the end of the year. “In return for operational complications and closed space people will get an entirely new space offering an appropriate level of comfort,” said Jakub Ptačínský, a spokesman for the railways management company SŽDC. The train terminal should be completed by the end of 2015, while the railway portion of the station should be finished by March 2015. Under an agreement signed in 2003 with Grandi Stazione, the Italian company was supposed to renovate the building and develop retail space in the station, but no progress was ever made. Under current plans, only the most basic shops will be opened in the newly renovated station.
