Ministry tendering repair work for collapsing bridges

27 January 2015

The Czech transport ministry will launch a tender to choose a construction company to repair two damaged bridges along the D47 motorway near Ostrava. Eurovia, which built the motorway section with the bridges, refuses to make (and pay for) the repairs. Repair costs are estimated at CZK 20m, with work scheduled to start in spring.

Transport Minister Dan Ťok says a tender for the work is to be launched in February. The bridges, completed six years ago, already suffer from cracks and shifting beams. Eurovia argues that the project’s investor, the state-owned Road and Motorway Directorate, chose the wrong material for the fillings. Ťok says that the court will decide and that the repair of the bridge will be carefully documented so that the evidence against Eurovia is not destroyed.
