Niki to start Bratislava-Brussels fights in October

26 January 2015

The low-cost Austrian airline operator Niki has postponed opening new routes between Bratislava and Brussels and Vienna until October. Niki, a branch of Air Berlin, said the delay was due to market conditions. It will start operating the new flights on Oct. 5. Flights to Majorca, which Niki planned to start offering in May, will be postponed until 2016.

The Brussels route is key for Niki’s Bratislava operations, as it tries to compete with Ryanair. The Irish low-cost carrier currently offers a connection to Brussels. However, its planes don’t land at Brussels’ main airport. Instead, Ryanair lands at the smaller Charleroi airport, which does not offer overseas connections.
