Wilson & Partners continues to speak out about real estate in Bratislava

16 December 2014

Wilson & Partners has recently been involved in a number of events where members of its team have been invited to speak on current legal issues, particularly in relation to real estate transactions.

At the recent “Stavebne Forum Conference” held in the Austria Trend Hotel in Bratislava on 26th November, two representatives of the Wilson & Partners’ Bratislava office were invited to speak, with Miroslava Truchla of the firm talking about the new act on commercial short-term residential leases and the recent amendment to the Act on Residential and Non-Residential Properties, and Robert Danis, Partner of the Bratislava office moderating the banking/investment panel.

Miroslava Truchla stressed that whilst the new regulation of short-term residential leases is a step in the right direction for the residential market, easing what were previously very heavy regulations, the amendment to the law has brought about many uncertainties, in particular with respect to the calculation of common area charges.
The banking/investment panel discussed the fact that residential and industrial properties are their preferred assets to finance in the development phase, whilst the retail and office market is more difficult given the oversupply in recent years, but can still be considered for financing if the project is good and well structured. With respect to the property investment market, the sentiment of the panel was that Slovakia is on the radar for institutional investors who are seeking a mix of office, industrial and retail projects.

Talking about the invitation to attend and moderate the banking/investment panel, Robert Danis said:

“Our offices in both Prague and Bratislava have had an exceptional year, and this is in no small part due to the quality of both of our legal teams. We feel that invitations to speak and/or moderate panels at events such as the recent Stavebne Forum Conference are proof of the very high esteem that our team members are held in.”
In November Wilson & Partners’ Bratislava office was also in receipt of three different awards from the Corporate INTL magazine; ‘Real Estate Law Firm of the Year in Slovakia’, ‘Foreign Investment Projects Law Firm of the Year in Slovakia’ and ‘Property Management &

Construction Law Firm of the Year in Slovakia’. The firm’s Prague office was also named ‘Property Acquisitions Law Firm of the Year in the Czech Republic, for the third year running.
