Italians front runners for D1 repair work

16 December 2014

Serenissima Costruzioni , an Italian construction company with no experience on the Czech market, looks like the front runner in a tender to rebuild three sections of the D1 motorway. The Czech Motorway Authority (RSD) revealed that the state could save as much as CZK 550m if the company’s bid proves to be the winner. The Italians have submitted a bid that appears much cheaper than those produced by Metrostav, Skanska and Eurovia, and the guarantees offered by the Italians are good for 10 years (four years longer than their competition).

In the case of a five kilometer section of road between the Hvězdonice and Ostředek exits, the company’s bid is 35 percent less than the state estimated. The boss of the Union of Contractors Václav Matyaš says 10 year guarantees are only feasible if bikers, rather than trucks, will be using the road. He also warns that the price bid by Serenissima Costruzioni is less than the cost of the work.
