$200m Upscale development planned for Eatonville

18 November 2014

The World Transportation Exchange is a huge, upscale development that could take over the property where Hungerford Prep School now sits closed in Eatonville. According to the Orlando Sentinel the project would include up to 8 stories of retail space for high-end automobiles, yachts, helicopters and corporate jets. In addition it would include a hotel and conference center, 500 mutlifamily units, multiple restaurants, and additional retail space.

The Sentinel is reporting Mayor Bruce Mount is in favor of the project that would bring jobs to the town that has battled high unemployment and low median income compared to the surrounding communities.

Complicating the potential development is the fact that the city of Eatonville entered into a contract with SKL Equities for the same property last year. Mayor Mount believes SKL has not met its terms of the contract, which would allow the city to negotiate with other developers.

Orange County Public Schools closed Hungerford Prep in 2009 due to declining enrollment. The property would need to be purchased from the school district. The Town Council is expected to vote on the project Tuesday night.
