Ministry takes Karlin army barracks off market

10 November 2014

Following two unsuccessful attempts, the Czech defense ministry is reportedly putting plans to sell the historical army barracks in Prague-Karlin on hold. Defense Minister Martin Stropnický had hoped to move forward with a third tender, but ministry officers told the server e15 that the department has decided to renovate the complex and give it back to the army. Stropnický reportedly discussed the matter again with Ivana Tykač, who won the first tender. Stropnický cancelled the tender in February pointing to the fact that two bidders in the tender were controlled by Tykač. Tykač offered CZK 589m for the barracks in the first tender. The ministry was asking for CZK 620 in the second tender but did not receive any serious bids.
