The Daily Mail in London reports that Greencore, the company that provides sandwiches to Marks & Spencer along with Tesco, will be recruiting workers from Hungary, as it can’t find people at home to do the job. The company is trying to find workers to fill its GBP 35m new factory, being built in Northampton, and is due for completion in 2016. Even if they earned just minimum wage in the UK, they would still be earning twice the Hungarian average GPB 7,000 wage in their new job, writes the newspaper. Their earnings would grow, writes the paper, if they brought dependents with them. The use of immigrant labor has become a highly politicized issue in the UK and as a powerful media outlet, the Daily Mail is an important, often opinionated player in the debate.
