Mexican cement manufacturer Cemex is taking over the Swiss concrete producer Holcim’s operations in the Czech Republic. The €45m acquisition, which includes a cementworks factory, five aggregate production units and 16 concreteworks facilities, will make the Mexican group number two on the Czech market. The deal is expected to close in January. Cemex is also planning to take over two Holcim units in Spain, where Holcim plans to merge with its French competitor, Lafarge. Cemex intends to sell some of its German operations to Holcim.
