J&T Real Estate secured all the necessary permits needed to break ground on Zuckermandel, a new neighborhood the developer plans to build below Bratislava Castle. The project has been in the works for seven years. Construction was delayed by numerous appeals by local activists who wanted to stop the project. Katarína Krajňáková, the spokeswoman for J&T Real Estate, told Trend Reality that the whole project will be completed in phases between 2016 and 2018. Underground parking garages capable of fitting 920 cars will be built in the first phase, followed by four blocks, which will include 204 apartments, 32,000 sqm of office and 2,000 sqm of retail. ČSOB bank was the first to sign on to the project’s office component. J&T Real Estate plans to build a 21,000 sqm headquarters for the bank. Apartment sales will start in March 2015.
