Scheidt & Bachmann will be supplying the Hungarian capital with an automated ticket collection system, under a decision just announced by BKK, Budapest’s transport authority. The €91m contract is good for five years and will be subsidized to the tune of €54.5m by the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development. The system will be designed to handle the tickets that can be used interchangeably between metros, buses, trams and local commuter trains. It’s unclear if the new system will do away with a veritable of uniformed ticket checkers that are seen in force most of the day at all the major and many less important metro stations. However the company revealed that 10,000 ticket validators will be installed on the city’s transport vehicles, along with 800 access gates for its metro and commuter rail stations.
