The Bernard-Valbek-Obermayer consortium has been chosen to work on a study for a project of broad-gauge railway going from Košice to Vienna. Realization of the plan is estimated to cost €6bn, writes TASR. The winning bid of €6m was the lowest in the tender. An €11m bid from ILF-Werner Consult-Reming Consult came second.
The tender was launched by the Vienna-based company Breitspur Planungsgesellschaft, managed by national railway companies of Austria, Ukraine, Russia and Slovakia. The development of a large distribution hub in the Vienna-Bratislava region is a key part of the project, and existing locations, such as industrial parks in Kitsee and Pandorf are being considered.
