Construction slows in Slovakia

Construction production in Slovakia reached just €398.8m in June, down 5 percent y-o-y, according to the country’s statistical office. Monthly results have not surpassed the €400m mark this year. Figures posted in the second half of 2013 were slightly above this limit. In other countries, production fell by one quarter. In Slovakia, production slowed in all segments, with new construction the hardest hit. New orders were scarce in infrastructure construction, and the residential market slowed as well.

In the first half of 2014, construction production dropped by 2 percent to €1.8bn. Production of new flats fell by 11.5 percent y-o-y to €272.5m. Infrastructure construction, meanwhile, grew by 1.6 percent to €365m.
