Metrostav starts tests on Troja bridge

20 August 2014

Tests to determine the capacity of the newly constructed Troja bridge, which is part of the Blanka tunnel complex in Prague, start today. A spokesman for Metrostav, which is overseeing the project, told the weekly Týden that heavy vehicles will enter the bridge at night because the temperature will be stable and not impact the results of the test. The tunnel is set to open on Oct. 6, ahead of the municipal elections. The rest of the complex will open next spring. Contract disputes between the City of Prague and Metrostav delayed the project by three years. The complex had originally been scheduled to open in 2011. Project costs are now up to CZK 36.9bn, nearly CZK 10bn more than original estimates.
