DS Smith leases 10,000 sqm in Nitra

17 June 2014

DS Smith has subleased 10,080 sqm of warehouse and office space in the industrial zone in Nitra, Slovakia for its plastics division. It’s leasing the space from Nitra Invest, which first developed the building and then sold it to Daidong, a major supplier of Sony. DS Smith, who was advised by Cushman & Wakefield on the deal, will be consolidating its European plastics operations in Nitra, creating 80 new jobs in the process. In addition to production and assembly operations, DS Smith plans to create a development center in Nitra.

Nitra Invest offers the leasing arrangement as a way of reducing the risk for the buyers of its buildings. “We typically take a head-lease on these industrial buildings and consequently sub-lease them to other 3rd parties. By doing so we effectively take on overall responsibility for the property,“ says Ondrej Scurka, an executive of Nitra Invest.
