The Czech Motorway and Road Directorate (ŘSD) is set to launch a series of public tenders worth CZK 8.5bn in June. Its director, Jan Kubiš, hopes this will jump start construction on a number of new Czech motorways after years of stagnation. Kubiš told the daily Hospodářské noviny that his project budget for 2014 is CZK 38bn. In addition to the new tenders, ŘSD also plans to restart projects worth CZK 5.5bn that have been on hold and pour between CZK 8bn and CZK 9bn into repairs in June. Kubiš says work on the D11 motorway outside Hradec Králové is the top priority, followed by the D3, R35, R6 and D8 motorways.
Motorways take 13 years to complete on average in the Czech Republic. Kubiš hopes amendments to laws regarding land expropriation and transport construction will help expedite the process.
