Construction work to repair the surface of the D1 motorway will be delayed by up to one year as a result of procedural challenges by environmental activists. The Czech daily MF Dnes reports that three sections of the CZK 14bn modernization project (between kilometers 42 and 182) were challenged in court by the Children of the Earth group. As a result, work will not be possible to begin on them before the end of the year, as their completion would make winter maintenance impossible. The paper writes that the European Union subsidies the government had planned on using could be forfeited as a result.
