After months of wrangling, Brno deputies approved a change to the master plan this week which will allow Amazon to build a 100,000 sqm distribution center next to the Černovická terasa industrial zone. Earlier this year, Brno officials rejected Amazons plans in three separate votes, citing concerns over increased traffic congestion. However, the Czech government recently intervened, lifting the Brno plot’s ban on warehouse use. Amazon has not announced whether it will move forward with the project. After Brno deputies rejected the project, the US e-retailer said it planned to start scouting other locations. The developer CTP, however, is pushing for Brno, saying the city’s plot is best suited for such a large distribution center. The project would add 1,500 jobs to the local labor market.
