Slovak pipeline to ease energy pressure on Ukraine

Slovakia is expected to have completed a pipeline for delivering gas to Ukraine by September, in a move designed to reduce Ukraine’s dependence on Russian deliveries. The two countries signed a deal last month that would enable the European Union to send gas to Ukraine, though the country had hoped for a larger volume. “We should be able to ship 8 to 10 billion cubic meters per year by September 1, depending on certain technical preconditions being met,” said Tomáš Mareček, chairman of Eustream, the Slovak pipeline operator.
