Bratislava to build rental housing with private investors

16 May 2014

The city of Bratislava is teaming up with private investors to build rental flats. The city will provide the land, while the investors will finance the project. Bratislava leaders are taking their inspiration from Vienna, where this model was used to build rental housing over the past few years. The city used the rental income to reimburse the investors for the covering the construction costs. Before the crisis, Vienna paid for the construction of rental flats from its own coffers. In Bratislava, one apartment building with 48 units is currently under construction in the city’s Petržalka district. The project is being financed through the city’s housing fund. Bratislava Mayor Milan Ptáčnik said the city is in talks with a few banks and insurance companies about their potential participation in the model.
