Poland’s flagship carrier LOT has left financial turbulence behind it earlier than expected, turning a PLN 26m profit for 2013. The company was not expected to emerge from a string of loss-making years stretching back to 2008 until 2015. The situation was complicated by its investment in Boeing 787 Dreamliners, whose rollout suffered serious setbacks. At the same time, the company has credited the plane, now operating smoothly, for bringing in PLN 96m last year. LOT has been making severe budget cuts, including staff reductions and route cancellations. LOT has not been successful in bringing in a strategic investor despite several attempts to do so.
