Czech President Miloš Zeman warned he may cancel Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych’s invitation to Prague if violence in Ukraine continues. Yanukovych is scheduled to attend the Eastern Partnership’s spring summit in Prague, but the invitation has triggered criticism from humanitarian groups.
Clashes between anti-government demonstrators and police in Kiev have claimed at least 25 lives since Tuesday. “If the violence continues, we will have to reconsider the whole situation,” said Czech presidential spokesman Jiří Ovčáček. Zeman recently said that early parliamentary and presidential elections would be the best solution for Ukraine. Hynek Kmoníček, head of Zeman’s foreign department, was scheduled to meet with Ukrainian Ambassador Borys Zaychuk on Wednesday.
