Unique Industrial Park in Cheb achieves highest environmental certification

Panattoni, in partnership with Accolade Group, has achieved a significant milestone in sustainable industrial development with the completion of an industrial park in Cheb, Czech Republic. All buildings within the park have received the prestigious BREEAM New Construction certification at the “Outstanding” level, the highest environmental standard. This achievement is underscored by the recent certification of the park’s third building, which scored an impressive 94%.

The third building, which now serves as a distribution center for the Czech logistics start-up Shipmonk, is part of Panattoni Park Cheb South, a development that has transformed a former engineering plant site into a state-of-the-art industrial complex. This latest certification follows similarly high ratings for two other buildings in the park, including a neighboring hall occupied by AUTODOC, which achieved a world-record score of 94.2% under the BREEAM New Construction 2016 standards. Another building, used by Kaufland eCommerce Fulfillment, previously earned a score of 90.6%.

Klára Sobotková, Regional Development Director at Panattoni, emphasized the significance of this accomplishment, noting that it solidifies Panattoni’s leadership in sustainable industrial construction. “This landmark transaction certifies that Romania is a business destination for activities with high added value, leaving aside the record it set in terms of both the leased area and the contractual value,” Sobotková said, highlighting the growing demand for environmentally friendly and cost-effective building solutions among multinational corporations.

Martina Nová, Associate Director for Acquisitions and Project Management at Accolade Group, praised the park as a showcase of their investment portfolio, noting the site’s transformation from a low-value brownfield into a modern industrial hub. “The fact that all of its buildings have achieved BREEAM New Construction green certification at the Outstanding level is just the icing on the cake and confirms the exceptional nature of our investment,” she stated.

The newly certified building, occupying 17,000 square meters, features advanced sustainability measures, including a rainwater flushing system that reduces potable water consumption by 85.5%, a primary water system with leak detection, and high-efficiency LED lighting. Additionally, the roof is designed to accommodate a future photovoltaic power plant, further enhancing the building’s energy efficiency.

Beyond the buildings themselves, the surrounding area has been revitalized with biodiverse green spaces, providing habitats for birds, insects, and small vertebrates. The park also offers amenities such as an outdoor gym, a relaxation area, and sustainable transport options, including electric vehicle charging stations and car-sharing spaces.

Panattoni Park Cheb South’s achievement is notable in the broader context of sustainable construction in the Czech Republic. Out of 21 buildings in the country with a BREEAM 2016 New Construction rating of Outstanding, seven are in the joint portfolio of Panattoni and Accolade, a testament to their leadership in this field. This accomplishment is especially significant given that only about 3% of buildings worldwide reach the Outstanding level.
