The Czech Republic is poised to veto the EUās 2014-20 budget proposal. āI’m coming to Brussels for talks on the multi-year financial framework with a strong and unequivocal mandate from the Czech government,ā Prime Minister Petr NeÄas was quoted as saying in a ÄTK report. āWe find this proposal unacceptable, and we are ready to use a veto.” NeÄas arrived for a summit in Brussels on Thursday.
“We are seeking a smaller and more modern European budget, a budget that will be fair to the Czech Republic,” added NeÄas, who is known for supporting strict austerity measures when necessary. NeÄas said he thinks the EU is unfair to the Czech Republic, explaining that he wanted the new budget to provide funding for development in poorer Czech regions.
