Legal issues have postponed the start of construction for a new power plant in Opole. The investor PGE issued a statement, insisting the project was safe. “We’re in talks with the general contractor, a consortium between Polimex-Mostostal, Rafako and Mostostal Warszawa, and as long as there is enough good will from all sides, the project will be completed,” said an anonymous source close to the case.
The project in Opole comprises the construction of two power blocks with a total capacity of 900 MW. The investor says it needs 54 months to complete the first block, and another 62 months for the second one.
In related news, Warsaw’s Regional Court said it would issue an environmental assessment decision on the project in the coming two weeks, following a challenge made by the foundation ClientEarth. The pressure group has already announced it will take the case to Poland’s Supreme Administrative Court, if the court in Warsaw finds its claim against the new power plant groundless.
