Based on road contracts signed with contractors during the last couple of years, the average cost to build a 1 km motorway in Poland is €9.6m, while in Germany it’s just €8.2m, according to data from General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways GDDKiA. The EU average is €10m for 1 km. Europe’s most expensive roads are built in the Netherlands (€50M/1 km), Norway (€18m/1 km), Austria (€12.87m/1 km) and Hungary (€11.87m/1 km). Meanwhile, costs in the Czech Republic (€8.86m/1 km), Slovenia (€7.29m /1 km) and Lithuania (€4m/1 km) were significantly lower, according to the study.
