Miloš Zeman, the newly elected Czech President, spent CZK 30m on his campaign, a steep jump from the CZK 3 million he’d predicted it would cost. At the beginning of the campaign, Zeman’s team raised CZK 12m, but by the race’s end, Zeman’s campaign chief, Vratislav Mynář, was speaking of costs topping CZK 20m, writes the daily Mladá fronta Dnes. The figure is expected to be much larger once all the receipts have been counted. “We are putting together the invoices for December and January. My estimate is around 30 million crowns,” Mynář told MfD. This is roughly the amount spent by Zeman’s opponent, Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg.
