Westinghouse to sign Temelin deal with Vítkovice Machinery

31 January 2013

Westinghouse Electric Company, one of the bidders vying for the Temelín nuclear plant expansion contract, signed an agreement with Vítkovice Machinery Group about future cooperation opportunities if Westinghouse wins the order. The Ostrava-based engineering group would supply structural and mechanical modules for the power plant expansion. Westinghouse owns licenses in many countries, opening the way for Vítkovice to operate on a global scale.
Westinghouse president and CEO Daniel Roderick said earlier that the company and its partners would use Czech steel in the construction if it won the Temelín tender. “We are interested in working with them on all projects in Europe as well as outside of Europe. These are new technological possibilities on the global nuclear market for Vitkovice,” said Vítkovice Machinery Group CEO Jan Světlík. If Westinghouse won the Temelín contract, it would need some 80,000 tons of steel from Czech companies for the expansion. A decision is expected later this year.
