The number of building permits for residential projects fell 4 percent last year compared with 2011, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Significant decreases were recorded in northeast Romania (-615 permits), the South-Muntenia region (-423 permits) and southeast Romania (-415 permits). Meanwhile, there were 260 more building permits issued in the western part of the country while in the Bucharest-Ilfov area, there was an increase of 60 permits.
The INS also revealed that the 2,342 permits issued in December represented a decrease of 10.4 percent compared with November and a 14.2 percent drop from December 2011.
