Head of PKP Cargo steps down

29 January 2013

Wojciech Balczun, head of the Polish State Railways PKP Cargo, has resigned after four years on the job. Balczun had been a member of the PKP supervisory board since 2005. When he was promoted to chief as a part of PKP’s restructure plan in 2008, the company was suffering a PLN 178.8m loss. Under Balczum’s management, however, the loss deepened to PLN 500m within a year, which was said to be a result of restructuring costs. Last April, Balczun was appointed to the supervisory board of the Polish airline operator LOT.
