Barroso and Orbán to discuss Hungarian debt

28 January 2013

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has agreed to new budget discussions with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in a meeting that’s scheduled to take place next week in Brussels. Along with Hungary’s budget deficit, the two will discuss economic and monetary union, the EU’s 2014-2020 financial framework and plans for a banking union. The European Commission has revealed that Hungary was able to push its deficit below the GDP’s 3 percent in 2012 and it’s belief that the country will manage to do so in 2013 as well. Orbán will also meet European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz during his visit.
