Hungary’s State Motorway Manager announced that the IT company Getronics has decided to pull out of the electronic toll road tender it won last year. The move could force the the government to manage without the HUF 75 bn it hoped to collect from the new system. According to Getronics, its decision not to sign the e-toll contract was made because of the “unprecedented degree and form of pressure created such an uncertain business and legal situation.”
A government spokesman, however, said that the departure of Getronics will not affect seriously the introduction of the e-toll system in 2013. Hungarian PM, Viktor Orbán said that “everything is progressing according to plan”, and promised that the project will be completed “by the legally set date and revenues will also be collected.”
