A record 1 million green certificates were traded on the Romanian market last year, 2.33 times higher compared with 2011, according to data released by the energy company OPCOM.
A green certificate is a document certifying that 1 MW/h of electricity was produced from renewable energy sources.
Renewable sources eligible to participate in the green certificates trading system include hydro energy used in plants with a maximum capacity of 10 MW, wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy and associated fuel gases, as well as biomass, biogas, gas from waste and sludge fermentation. The final figure for 2012 was 1,053,000 certificates.
