IMF delegation visits Hungary this week

15 January 2013

An International Monetary Fund delegation is set to visit Hungary this week to discuss macroeconomic developments over the past six months. Iryna Ivaschenko, head of IMF’s Budapest office, said the visit, which starts Wednesday and runs until Jan. 28, will not involve negotiations on new loans. Rather, it will be an opportunity to review the country’s economy. The delegation will also review Hungary’s 2008 loan agreement.
IMF’s last report on Hungary was made in January 2012. An IMF delegation last visited Hungary in July 2012. Relative optimism was reported after that meeting, but little progress has been achieved since.
