Romania posted a 4.95-percent inflation rate for 2012, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The level is under the 5.1 percent target set by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).
Prices increased by 0.6 percent in December with prices for food products increasing by 0.66 percent and 0.89 percent for non-food products. Meanwhile, service prices went down 0.19 percent, according to the INS.
The monthly average inflation rate for 2012 was 0.4 percent. In 2011, the monthly rate was 0.3 percent. The National Bank of Romania estimates the annual inflation rate will be 3.5 percent in late 2013.
